Chicago man explains challenge of city’s handgun ban

In 2005, McDonald became active in the pro-gun lobby when Illinois lawmakers were considering an assault-rifle ban. He worried that type of restriction might outlaw hunting rifles. He started attending gun rallies in Springfield and was “the only black guy” he saw. He met people who introduced him to Alan Gura, the lead attorney in the suit against Chicago, who at the time was searching for prospective plaintiffs. After a few conversations with Gura, McDonald agreed to be the lead plaintiff.

Chicago airport to get full-body scanners

February 23, 2010 (CHICAGO) (WLS) — One of Chicago’s airports will soon have full-body scanners as part of security measures.

Body-scanners will be installed in airports in Chicago and Boston over the next two weeks, according to a Homeland Security Department official who spoke on the condition of anonymity. The rest of the 150 new machines will be installed before June.

The body-scanners were purchased as part of the stimulus plan announced by President Barack Obama in February 2009.

The Obama administration said the scanners will improve airport security and the president said more should be purchased after the botched terror attack on a Detroit-bound plane on Christmas Day.

Chicago’s Renaissance Blackstone Hotel Opens Graffiti Art Exhibit

The 100-year-old South Loop icon introduces Outlaw exhibit by renowned graffiti artist Kaves.

PRESS RELEASE — Hotels, 2/17/2010 9:06:19 AM

Every big city needs a rebel address, and so The Renaissance Blackstone is stepping up against convention. The Beaux-Arts landmark in Chicago's South Loop is decking its Art Hall with Outlaw, a new exhibition of works by renowned graffiti artist Michael McLeer, also known as Kaves. The Blackstone, which is celebrating its 100th birthday this year, has its own outlaw past counting clientele such as gangsters Al Capone and Charles “Lucky” Luciano. The property will celebrate Kaves' spray paint skills with an exhibit on February 18 and available for public viewing through September 25.

Originally from Brooklyn, Kaves took to the tunnels of the New York City transit system at age 10 to flex his creative vision with spray paint. His growth as an artist was documented in Spraycan Art by Henry Chalfant (Thames & Hudson), and his work earned him a spot in the Graffiti Hall of Fame. Still Brooklyn, heart and soul, Mr. Kaves has designed exclusive material for clients including Nike, the Beastie Boys, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, as well as providing the artwork for MTV's Real World: Brooklyn loft.

We Are Change Chicago

December, 16, 2009

CHICAGO IL – Former Governor of Illinois, Rod Blagojevich held a book signing at Columbia College this week, promoting his new book, The Governor. He also participated in a debate for the Cinema Slapdown series hosted by the College. Members of We Are Change Chicago were on hand to watch the 1964 film Viva Las Vegas, the debate between the former governor and Dan Rybicky, and then most importantly speak with the Governor.

The mainstream media was present, the panel included: ABC, WGN, NBC, FOX, CBS, Chicago Tribune, and Chicago Sun Times. Again, the media made an epic fail by not covering or bringing up issues that actually matter. As we have seen in the past year, the media has only tried to bad-name his credibility, poke fun at his hair, call him names, or criticize his personal life. We Are Change, with the intention to provide the American people with the TRUTH, talked to Governor Blagojevich about his resistance to big banks, which is what really led to his arrest.
